Holiday Crime Alert: Watch out for December Thieves

Lock up your small items.

As usual, the economy for construction slows down in the off season -- usually from Thanksgiving through the end of the year. So, it was no surprise when I went outside Monday morning (12.17.12) and discovered someone had cut my fence and stolen a gas air compressor off my truck.

I live on Old Peachtree Road between Hurricane Shoals and Old Fountain. I assume they saw the item driving around during daylight hours. The truck is always in the same spot in my yard and it always had the compressor on the back of it. I added some extra lights around the house (hate to see my power bill) for additional security. I have several dogs on our fully fenced-in property, but the rain had them in the basement not hearing a sound.

Lock up your small items: tools, blowers, commercial weedeaters, generators, etc. Thieves are not interested in the large items like cars and boats, just things they can pawn or sell for a quick cowardly dollar. Ironically, these are the things that we don't insure or things that are worth less than the cost of our deductibles.

I still think this is a great community and I hope Gwinnett County catches the low-lifes before they pay you a visit.

Happy Holidays
