GCPD to Hold Funeral Services at Oak Rest Pet Gardens for K-9 Officer Caleb

The Gwinnett Police Department, will be laying to rest one of its own on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 12:30 pm in the Garden of Honor at Oak Rest Pet Gardens in Gwinnett.

K-9 Officer "Caleb" was assigned to Officer Mike Waddell of the Gwinnett Police Department’s K-9 Unit.  “Caleb” was born May 25, 2002 in the Netherlands, arriving to the U.S. completely untrained.  Through the committed and strenuous training efforts of Officer Waddell in tracking and narcotics training, “Caleb” began his service with Gwinnett Police Department serving for more than nine years along side Officer Waddell.

During his career, K-9 Caleb was responsible for numerous drug apprehensions and more than 100 felony patrol arrests keeping Gwinnett County a safer place for us all.  K-9 Officer “Caleb” retired his last official action in March of 2011.   Known as dedicated and hard-working among his family and colleagues, K-9 Caleb will missed by many.

A full Honor Guard service along with a 10-motorcycle motorcade will be held for K-9 Officer “Caleb” at Oak Rest Pet Gardens Funeral Home Cemetery located at 2691 Harbins Road, off Hwy. 316 in Dacula.  Services will include several of the Gwinnett County Police Department K-9 Units.

Oak Rest Pet Gardens donates its services as a tribute to K-9 Officers serving the public interest.   K-9 Officer “Caleb” will be laid to rest in the Garden of Honor at Oak Rest Pet Gardens alongside more than 50 other K-9 Officers previously laid to rest.

For additional information regarding services for our K-9 Officers, please contact Keith D. Shugart or Donna Bethune at 770-457-7659.

I wish I could have attended the ceremony. RIP Officer Caleb. Oak Rest is a BEAUTIFUL place owned by the compassionate owners of Deceased Pet Care. My wife & I, being the dog lovers that we are, have already made arrangements for ourselves to be laid to rest here. Along with our pets' cremated ashes.

It was a very nice service. It sounded as if Caleb was a wonderful partner and family member. I am so sorry for your loss.

In 1963 I was 14 and somehow landed a job mowing the lawn and doing other things for a prominentRead More local surgeon who had a 10 acre estate. They had a riding lawn mower and I was game to do anything that involved gas engines! It was a 2 mile bike ride there and I could work whenever I wanted and they paid me 50 cents an hour, so I was bringing home six or seven dollars a WEEK!!!

Hi Ed - What don't you like? Is there anything about the redesign you do like? Also, please let ourRead More engineers/product people know by clicking on the green "Feedback" flag on the right side of the page. They do take feedback into consideration for future versions of the site. This design is very different from the Alpha version they began rolling out last year. They listened to feedback and made several changes, so feedback really does matter.

"There are people in all levels of government office who would like nothing more than to beRead More able to conduct all the public business out of public view" The problem is, who's going to stop them? Certainly--no one from this justice department who is complicit in multiple overreaches and coverups.

I wrote this on another post but it so applies here and is worth repeating: James Madison wrote inRead More the federalist paper (no. 51) concerning the separation of powers and need for limited government , "“ It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government……” We need to have a "Madison moment"...
