Ignite Citizens With Passion for Change

Are you a good citizen? Do you vote? Would you be a part of a selected and tracked target group? We are looking for 300 new voters. Do you care about the community you live in enough to vote?

Can Patch ignite its readers to become more involved citizens? Are the majority of citizens just too busy making ends meet to be concerned about their community?  Do the majority of citizens view our community news as merely a recording of daily events to only read, digest, and then move on? Nothing is required to read about the community for the average citizen. Reading is basic. Digesting the news and critical thinking of the mind are required to form an opinion. Emotions are required to form an opinion. Our mind is not just an empty container in need of filling but a but a furnace in need of stoking.

What makes a reader comment on an article on Patch? What would cause a reader to put fingers to computer and risk possible public ridicule?  Ebert says, "Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie.” Emotions make writers write. Emotions fire up the mind. Emotions move societies forward. Emotions make citizens vote. Why then do so many let their emotional thoughts become extinguished in the ashes of exhaustion? Is it easier to keep your head secure in naivety and to pretend all is well in your little part of the world, than to speak out or to vote your convictions?

In today’s society, when you see an injustice, is it best to keep your mouth shut and let things be? When you see a crime happening, is it wise to turn a blind eye and hide in your closet of fear? When you see your very community being attacked, is it wiser to turn your face towards apathy and not become involved? In a huge city, like New York City, we hear about this lack of commitment by its citizens towards politics as well as crime. Do the two go together, apathy and crime? Why is apathy the prevailing thought at this time?

The trouble with the laws these days are that criminals know their rights better than their wrongs. When we can’t take our grandchildren , it is time to speak out. When you can’t take a , it is time to speak out. When , it is time to speak out. When your own home is no longer safe from the neighborhood thugs, it is time to speak out. It is time to become a voter. It is said that, “ All that has to happen for evil to prevail is for good people to do or say nothing.”

Patch offers every citizen a sounding board to become active in the forming of our community.  I challenge our community to open closed minds and stoke the fire of citizenship through this venue.  “Without a sense of caring there can be no sense of community.” (D’Anglo)
