Straight From the Horses Mouth

An Invitation to Greatness WIll you be ready to choose our next leaders?

Well, time is running out and soon we will be voting for a new District 3 Commissioner.  Their signs are dotting our drivetime.  The door to doors have caught me totally unprepared to meet and greet in my bathrobe. The sparks fly off the computer whenever the topic of the airport comes up.  Why would anyone want to spend their money, time and reputation on a public office? I choose to believe every person goes into politics to serve their fellow man.  I choose to believe there are some better equipped than others to be successful in public office. I do believe that future success can best be determined by past history.

I became acutely interested in politics, at a breakfast, at the Governor's Mansion, while eating and listening to Gov. Sonnny Perdue challenge his young interns to, "Choose to serve your fellow man, choose public service as your career path, it is a noble choice" he stated.

At that breakfast were some 50 young men and women that had been chosen, screened, and interviewed, to serve on Sonny's staff at various locations.  Whether at the capitol, the mansion, or at the Department of AG, each of those college seniors had just finished a semester of learning that one can not receive from a Georgia Government text book.  They were witness to the inner workings of their government.  They stood side by side with the highest elected official in our state.

I heard their stories of a flag deadline where they rushing out purchasing a Georgia state flag for the Governor.  Where do you buy a flag in downtown Atlanta? Not knowing why, only to find out, on the TV later that night, that it was to be given at the Little League World Series that Sonny attended with the little league team from his home town area.

Each night during the drought, we heard stories of the comments that were coming in from all over the country to voice their pleasure or disdain of Sonny's prayer for rain, on the capitol steps. Charts were made. Daily totals were reported to his office. Yes, public opinion does count political office.  Yes, they received an education in politics that will forever be etched in their memories. They were properly thanked at that breakfast and went back to their chosen colleges and went on to graduate.

"Choose to serve your fellow man, it is a noble choice," he stated.  He was proud and honored to serve as our governor. He wanted others to follow his path.  There are only a few thousand elected positions in our state that a person can decide to run for, if they also choose this noble service.  City, county and state political jobs are not plentiful.

Whom should we place in these very important places as our caretakers of the light?  We must decide whom will lead us.  We must decide whom we will follow. We can take time tonight to listen to four men who have heard the call to "serve his fellow man." If you have not heard the call, in your life to run for elected office, at least come hear the words of our next Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner. He will be at the Stars and Strikes in Dacula, at the corner of Hwy 316 and Hwy 29/GA8 at 6 p.m.  He will be there.  He will be answering your questions. He will be asking for your vote. Will you answer the call to serve your fellow man by becoming an educated and well informed voter? Maybe you will you choose to "Sign Vote" instead?  I am issuing a personal invitation to each person, in the third district, to come out tonight and see which man is the best choice to move our county forward during these troubling times.
