Balancing Brooms, Solar Storms and Party Arrests

Here's a look back at five of our most popular stories in Dacula last week.

Did you try it for yourself? Seems like everyone else did! Some are claiming this broom and egg balancing is the result of the vernal equinox but experts say otherwise. Experts suggest that you will still be able to stand your broom on its bristles weeks, months and years from now. My question is this, what makes one an expert on broom standing anyway?

Newt Gingrich won Georgia’s Republican presidential primary on Tuesday, March 6. With 99 percent of Georgia’s precincts reporting, Gingrich, the former U.S. House speaker, was leading with 47.2 percent of the vote, followed by Romney at 25.9 percent, Santorum at 19.6 percent and Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 6.6 percent. The Gwinnett County Police Department DUI Task Force arrested five people on March 4 at a checkpoint on Braselton Highway near Enclave Mill Court. All vehicles traveling northbound were stopped, the purpose, to check that drivers were licensed, using seatbelts and not impaired. NASA predicted the leading edge of CME would reach the Earth at or about 1:25 EST on Thursday, March 8. Predictions were that areas impacted by the storm could experience power system voltage irregularities, false alarms on protection devices, intermittent satellite navigation problems and other disturbances.

Five Dacula teens were arrested by Barrow County Sheriff deputies at a party in Winder on March 4. Deputies arrived just after 1 a.m. and found garage doors open and beer cans strew throughout the garage. Deputies noted whiskey, vodka, a bong (water pipe used to smoke marijuana) and an “extremely large” fishbowl full of Gummi Bears soaking in alcohol. Underage partygoers were tested for alcohol use and those who tested positive were taken to the Barrow County Detention Center.
