Around the Region: Arrest in Halloween Rape Case, Army Suicide Data, Armed Robbery at Bonfire

Roswell Patch

Roswell Police arrested Robert Anthony Guillen on Saturday, Nov. 19 after he turned himself in. Guillen, 21, is one of two young men accused of raping two 14 year old girls at the Martins Landing playground on Halloween night.

Police had been unable to locate Guillen up until the time of his arrest since he is homeless and had no definitive ties to the area.

The two victims, both 14 year old girls, reported that they were sexually assaulted by two acquaintances. Within a week a 14 year old boy was arrested in the case on charges of statutory rape, child molestation, enticing a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Guillen has been charged with statutory rape, child molestation, enticing a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Army released suicide data on Nov. 19 for the month of October. Among active-duty soldiers, there were 17 potential suicides; one has been confirmed as suicide and 16 remain under investigation. During October 2011, among reserve component soldiers who were not on active duty, there were 12 potential suicides; none have been confirmed as suicide and 12 remain under investigation.

Leaders at Fort Stewart have implemented an . “Every soldier should keep an eye out for signs of depression in himself and his friends,” stated Third Infantry Division commander Maj. Gen. Robert Abrams in an August interview with reporters.

 


Lilburn Patch

According to the Gwinnett County Police a young man sitting at a bonfire with his friends was tackled from behind by a large man wearing a face mask. The assailant placed a knife at the throat of the victim and demanded money.

The victim told the officers that a friend placed the suspect in a headlock while the victim escaped and the police were called. According to a witness the suspect then escaped. The victim had a cut on his right hand and dirt on his face and clothing. No serious injuries were reported, and nothing was reported stolen.
