"Occupy" Movement Hits Atlanta

Occupy Atlanta -- the local offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement that is spreading across the country -- met this weekend at Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta.

Like it's Wall Street counterparts and those at major cities elsewhere in the United States, the Atlanta group is angry about what they say is Wall Street bankers' use and abuse of Americans and America's resources for the personal financial gain of a few.

Barking Dog Saves Family from Fire

A Lawrenceville family escaped from a house fire unharmed Sunday morning after their dog’s barking woke them.

When Gwinnett Fire crews arrived at the home on the 300 block of Shire Way, they found heavy fire coming from the attic and back of the house.

"We are fortunate that an alert K-9 was able to warn the sleeping occupants," said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge in a press release. He also noted that there were smoke detectors in the house but that had not yet gone off because the fire was primarily outside and in the attic.

The fire caused extensive damage to the exterior rear wall, attic and roof.

The residents were displaced and are being helped by friends and family.
