Around the Region: Construction Worker Crushed, Vehicular Homicide Suspect Indicted and Bicycle-Riding Robbery Suspect Sought

A 46-year-old man operating heavy equipment on a home site under construction in a south Forsyth County subdivision was killed Thursday morning, according to authorities.

The accident occurred just before 11:30 on Bramble Bush Way in the subdivision off James Burgess Road, said Capt. Jason Shivers with the .

Jeffery McGhee of Cumming was operating a skid-steer loader (brand name "Bobcat") and is believed to have backed down a steep incline and hit a tree.

"The impact crushed him in the cab of the equipment," said Shivers. "He was dead upon the arrival of the fire department."

McGhee is survived by his wife and son and was employed with John P. Wood Grading and Hauling based in Cumming.

 

– Stone Mountain Patch

The woman accused in the death of an Atlanta Police officer, has been indicted.

Police say Chastity Jones, 22, of Stone Mountain was driving the vehicle that struck and killed Gail Thomas, a 15-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department as she exited her patrol vehicle on I-75/I-85 last month.

Jones’ blood alcohol level reportedly tested .16 at the scene, twice the legal limit.

 

– Marietta Patch

Police are searching for a man who robbed a Marietta discount store clerk at gunpoint and later fled the scene on a bicycle.

The man entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money. The store clerk handed the robber some of the money that she had removed from the safe to fill the register. The robber demanded more money and then struck the victim in the head with the handgun.

The robber fled on a silver, full-size mountain bicycle with black graphics on the frame. He is described as having a skinny build and being possibly in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a black pullover hoodie sweatshirt, acid-washed denim jeans and a face cover.

The victim was transported to  and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
