Around the Region: Deputy Returns Fire, Missing Man Found and Pink Slime Debate Continues

A  deputy shot a man in the arm in an Adairsville incident.

Police scanner traffic provided by Bartow County Scanner (see video) indicates the deputy returned fire at a vehicle at Linwood and Hall Station roads in response to a man's report someone was shooting at him.

The Nissan truck carrying two men had its bright lights on, and the deputy said he could not see the pair. "They’re not being very cooperative," was the next thing he said over the police radio.

Authorities say the driver, Nelson Fain Carver, 41, was shot by the deputy, taken by ambulance to Floyd Medical Center and later released. He was then jailed on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the product is safe, so safe that the USDA will continue to okay it for school lunchrooms across the country. Though some schools are deciding not to serve it.

Why have state officials in the Midwest and South started re-branding pink slime as finely textured ground beef? Money. A decrease in demand for the product could devastate to the beef industry.
