Around the Region: Escaped Inmate Leads Cops to Drug Stash, Bombing Suspects Enter Pretrial Program and Big Brother Is Watching in Duluth

– Cartersville Patch

A man who allegedly escaped Monday from a jail work-release program in Augusta led local authorities to "a large quantity of marijuana, U.S. currency and firearms," according to Bartow County-Cartersville Drug Task Force officials.

Local agents—comprised of  and  officers and part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Task Force—and members of a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday executed a search warrant at 4 Cedar Lane in Cartersville.

They arrested Charles Justin Moore, 24, who allegedly escaped the custody of the Richmond County Correctional Institute, and a second person in the home at the time.

Mark Mayton, commander of the local DTF, said investigators received "creditable information" Moore was at the Cartersville home and upon his arrest, found marijuana. Agents secured a search warrant, and found more marijuana, cash they believe to be proceeds from drug sales, and firearms.

– East Cobb Patch

 juniors  of East Cobb have entered a pretrial diversion program after being arrested in November and charged with three counts of use and possession of a destructive device.

If completed successfully, they will have their records expunged or destroyed.

, SC, and another bomb outside a nearby house just outside the city in unincorporated York County, according to the incident reports from the Clover Police Department and the York Sheriff's Office.

 

– Duluth Patch

Don’t even think about doing anything bad in Duluth. The city's Iron Sky system just went live. Eleven high-definition pan-tilt-zoom surveillance cameras along Buford Highway, Downtown Duluth and Bunten Road Park will give Duluth police officers extra eyes to protect residents and catch criminals.

Cameras will also monitor the Duluth Town Green and Public Works Department.

The Iron Sky system records footage that police can access from computers located at Duluth Police Department headquarters and laptops in patrol cars. Duluth’s system also incorporates computer-aided dispatch (CAD) data that maps patrol cars, crime and traffic incidents and camera footage on one easy-to-use interface.
