It doesn't appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, House said.

"I think it was just simply a case where Simone just didn't yield right of way," said House. "He [Simone] should have stopped and waited for the scooter to come through the intersection and for whatever reason he decided to make the left turn at the same time the scooter was coming."

The Atlanta Police Department arrested 19 people during Saturday night's protest.

APD Public Affairs Manager Carlos Campos said those who were arrested "refused to leave Woodruff Park after the 11 p.m. closing time or impeded Peachtree Street and other city roads by blocking them and not allowing police to open them to normal traffic."

Another person who allegedly assaulted a motorcycle patrol officer was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and obstruction, Campos said.

Protestors attempted to retake in downtown Saturday night, but a strong presence by Atlanta police ended the protest.

However, as police barricaded Woodruff Park after its official 11 pm closing, protestors took to Peachtree Street, marching as far south as Walton Street.

"Before any arrests were made, people in the park were given several warnings over a loudspeaker, in English and Spanish, that anyone remaining in the park after the 11 p.m. closing time would be in violation of city ordinances," Campos said. "Warnings were given to people in Woodruff Park after 11:00 pm. They were also given to people blocking city roads, making it unsafe to open the roads for vehicular travel."

A display at the on Oct. 29 had some parents concerned about one of the contributors. With it being targeted toward children under 7, a “concerned mom” posted on a Patch story that she found the pro-life display “inappropriate and disgusting.” Along with the candy, the group was handing out a replica of a 12-week-old fetus.

“My son went up and asked what they were. Before I could intervene the gentleman took it upon himself to explain to my child that it was a 12-week-old fetus and that is what he looked like in mommy's belly,” she posted in comments. “I can understand people's choices, but this was not the time nor the place to be explaining this and to be passing out these fetus dolls. This was something that was supposed to be geared towards school-age children.”

The fetus dolls were handed out by pro-life group Project:Ignite Global Ministries, a non-profit ministry that operates through “pursuit campaigns” to promote activism among Christians with a focus on pro-life activism.
