Around the Region: UGA Professor Arrested for Prostitution, Prisoner Escapes Through Ceiling and Cat Shot and Paralyzed

University of Georgia German professor Max Roland Reinhart was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of prostitution and keeping a place of prostitution. Reinhart is A.G. Steer Professor in Goethe Studies in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies and a well-known scholar.

Gwinnett police officials reported in an email that they located an ad in the transsexual escort services section of backpage.com. The subject’s name was listed as “Sasha.”  Detectives arranged a meeting with “Sasha” at the Guest House Inn in Norcross. The room was rented out by Reinhart and the undercover detective agreed to pay the suspect $60 for thirty minutes of “services.” Reinhart was taken into custody, where after several hours he posted bond and was released.

A prisoner who escaped custody at Liberty Regional Medical Center was recaptured by Hinesville Police last week. The prisoner, Travis Coller, was arrested Monday, June 4 for drug possession and transported to the hospital for drug detoxification.

Apparently the prisoner escaped through the bathroom ceiling and led police on a wing-by-wing search of the hospital. Police located the prisoner about an hour and a half later, hiding in the ceiling near where he’d made his escape. He was transported to the county jail.

A Roswell resident rushed his kitten to the local animal hospital when it came home dragging its right hind leg up the stairs. Veterinarians told Roswell Police the kitten had been shot with some kind of projectile from a BB or pellet gun and that the bullet was still lodged in the cat’s body. Nerve damage caused the back right leg of the pet to go limp with paralysis.

The resident reported that he often saw his neighbor on the balcony with a rifle of some kind. A second neighbor confirmed this information. Police are currently investigating the case.
