Around the Region: Robbery Attempt Foiled by Alert Citizen, Bear Paws Mistaken for Human Remains and Bat-Wielding Ex-Boyfriend Arrested

An alert citizen was at the  in Canton yesterday when he noticed a masked man sitting in a car with an obscured tag.

He called 911 and told the dispatcher what he saw in a parking lot near two banks at the intersection of Sixes and Bells Ferry roads.

That call, the  said, ultimately foiled a Canton man's plans to rob a bank.

car that revealed his plans to commit a robbery.

"The note indicated Rainey had a gun and wished for the clerk to put $2,000 in the checkbook," Capt. Joe Perkins said in a news release.

 

– Cartersville Patch

Remains found Feb. 21 about 12 miles outside Cartersville in Bartow County were not those of a human, authorities say.

 deputies about 3 p.m. were called to 55 Hardin Bridge Road to assist a Kingston Police Department officer secure a scene possibly containing human remains.

The officer contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, but no human remains were found, according to a Kingston police officer who answered the phone.

"It turned out to be bear paws," he said.

 

– Norcross Patch

An Atlanta man was arrested for a domestic aggravated assault case after getting into a fight when he visited his ex-girlfriend's house to pick up their daughter.

The Atlanta man and the ex-girlfriend began arguing. The woman’s new boyfriend told the ex to leave. Angry, the suspect grabbed a metal bat from his car and hit the boyfriend with it, breaking his arm. He also tackled the boyfriend to the ground and bit him on the chest, causing a visible mark with skin and muscle missing, according to police. He was later transported to a local hospital.

The ex-boyfriend then attacked his ex-girlfriend's car with the bat and smashed the driver's side windows and front and back windshields. He also used the bat to break the front windows of the house and the ex-girlfriend's laptop.

The man left the scene, but was later found and taken into custody.
