A Lawrenceville man charged with shooting a former Army buddy last week in Suwanee is in custody in North Carolina.

Timothy Franklin Amstutz is being held in the Surry County (N.C.) Jail on a fugitive from justice charge and has waived extradition, according to a published report. The shooting happened on Grand Park Drive in Suwanee last Thursday, according to Suwanee Police.

The wounded man, Carmen McCurrie, is back home after having reconstructive surgery on his face, according to Rosemary Vollmar, his mother in law.

- Norcross Patch

On Dec. 9 at approximately 1 a.m., a Gwinnett County police officer approached two men who were running near the intersection of Oakbrook Parkway and Live Oak Parkway in unincorporated Norcross.

One of the men told police, "They're after me!" and explained that three unknown males had been shooting at him at the America's Best Inn at 6045 Oakbrook Parkway.

The victim, 32, continued to tell police that he went to America's Best to meet a woman named "Juicy," whom he just met over the phone via the Quest Hotline. They had talked on the phone at 4 p.m. and were supposed to meet at the inn an hour and a half later. After walking from his house, he said, he waited at the front of the inn, but she never showed.

When the officer asked him why he expected the girl to still be at the hotel nine hours after their phone call, he couldn't give an answer. He said he also had no idea who had been running near him.

Three shell casings and a bullet fragment were found in the second story hallway of the hotel.
