Around the Region: Train Accident Kills Elderly Man, Court Date Set for Accused Child Molester and Pot Grower Denied Bond

One person was killed in a train-car crash on Cass-White Road near U.S. 411 in Cartersville Wednesday morning.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Edward Ellis Brumfield Jr., 80, of Cartersville was killed when he drove around the stop arm and was hit in the driver's door by the train.

Wright said no one else was hurt in the incident.

– Canton-Sixes Patch

A hearing for a married Canton man accused of molesting his girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter has been set.

Joshua Daniels, 29, will appear before Colquitt County Magistrate Court Judge J.J. McMillan at 9 a.m. on Jan. 10. Three weeks ago with his wife and children, and arrested him. They were led to him after the 10-year-old Colquitt County girl told a neighbor that she had been assaulted.

Daniels was booked in the Colquitt County Jail on Dec. 15 on charges of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, rape and aggravated assault. He remains there without bond.

 

– Douglasville Patch

Jessie Brister, 25, was arrested on Dec. 27 by the after a complaint about drug activity directed deputies to a residence off of Highway 78. Through an investigation, it was discovered that Brister was growing marijuana in a room in his residence.

A report from the sheriff's department, released today, indicated that Brister appeared before the local Magistrate Judge where his bond was denied based on his criminal history and the new charges.
