Around the Region: Twilight Fans Mingle With Stars, Gwinnett Gets New City and Student Killed in Fall

Fans of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" packed the Monday night to meet stars of the movie, to be released Nov. 17.

The celebration of the film's marriage of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen included a special performance by soundtrack artist Christina Perri and appearances by cast members Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and Charlie Bewley, who answered fans' questions, according to a news release.

The Buckhead event kicked off a national tour of appearances for the film's release.

– Peachtree Corners Patch

It was the moment this group had long awaited. Mike Mason, who spearheaded the Peachtree Corners Yes campaign, announced to a jubilant crowd of supporters Tuesday night that the referendum to incorporate the community of Peachtree Corners had passed.

As the reports from the precincts came in one by one, the group of supporters began hugging each other and finally it was announced after all 13 precincts had reported in that cityhood was a reality with a final 57 percent to 43 percent favorable vote.

"I tell you the Peachtree Corners people realized that ‘no’ is not a plan for the future," said Mason, referring to the group opposing cityhood whose campaign offered a strident message of "No City" as its campaign slogan.

In the not too distant future campaigning for a mayor and council members will begin for the county's 16th and largest city.

 

– Athens Patch

Friends, family and local skateboarders are mourning the loss of 16-year-old Ian Brussack, who died suddenly over the weekend.

Brussack attended and had recently enrolled in , a smaller, nontraditional high school. He was an avid skateboarder, who frequented the Skatepark of Athens at .

Friends said Brussack was at a party when he fell down a flight of concrete stairs at an Eastside townhome Friday evening. Police are investigating what might have caused Brussack to fall, but so far have released few details.
