Bell Stealing Perps, Card-Carrying Thief and Ambassadors of Laughter

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

This is just plain low. To steal a church bell that is only worth a few dollars as scrap, but carries great sentimental value to a congregation is despicable. I want to thank my media colleagues at Fox5 and WSBTV for picking up the story and helping spread the word about this theft. Hopefully the bell will be found and returned to the church.

Speaking of metal thefts, a Dacula woman landed in jail after allegedly stealing metal from a Winder construction company. The deputies in Barrow County did not have to work all that hard to solve the case since the accused thief very helpfully left a credit card sized copy of her high school diploma and other paperwork bearing her name in a backpack with stolen goods.  You just cannot make this stuff up.

I have been a Northeast Georgia Health System patient for years. Medical Plaza 1 at River Place is a wonderful facility and I am truly pleased NGHS will be building a hospital in our area. The news is made even better by the fact that 500 jobs will be created in the process.

Not only do we have some fine medical facilities in our area, we have two awesome libraries. This past week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Hamilton Mill Library for the “Ambassadors of Laughter” performance. Both the Dacula and Hamilton Mill branches routinely host wonderful events for young people and adults. Check the Dacula Patch event calendar or the Gwinnett County Public Library website to learn more about the fun and interesting events taking place at our local libraries.

Patch teamed up with the Georgia Department of Labor last week to present a live chat on surviving a layoff. If you missed the chat, you can click on the link above to read the transcript. Being unemployed is tough, but the GDOL can help.

Be sure to check in during the week for the latest news and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the day. Have a great week and thanks for reading Dacula Patch.
