Big Changes in Dacula, Masked Suspects on the Prowl and Government Regulation of Vasectomies

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Next week, the Dacula City Council will vote on revisions to the city’s planned mixed use development (PMUD) ordinance. These revisions will increase the development options for property within the city limits. Currently, an investment group is considering requesting that a 157-acre tract of land be annexed into the city limits and subsequently developed as a “live, work, play” community under the revised PMUD. At last week’s council work session, representatives from the investment group presented a concept plan that would include hotels, a convention center, a town green, office space and apartments. This is potentially a huge source of revenue for the city. That said, the revised PMUD will allow apartments -- a change that could prove to be unpopular. If you have concerns or questions about the revised PMUD, now is the time to contact your Dacula councilmember.

You may just be helping put a drug dealer behind bars.

A Dacula woman is making a difference in the lives of Gwinnett children by fighting hunger one bag at a time. Cheri Loy is one of the founders of the “Bags of Hope” program. Take a moment to learn more about this great program and to find out how you can help.

Don’t you just love political theater? Georgia Democrats have introduced a bill that would regulate vasectomies. The rationale behind the bill? To "call attention to the double standard on reproductive rights" in reference to pro-life measures included in Republican-backed legislation. What do you think? Is this a logical way to protest what Democrats see as invasive legislation or a waste of taxpayer time and money?
