Contract Approved for Second Phase of Harbins Park

Project will feature dog park, playground and more.

The county’s largest park to date will soon have even more features to attract area residents.

Last month, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved a contract for phase two of , located at 2995 Luke Edwards Road, Dacula. The second phase of the 1,960-acre park will be completed in two stages. The first stage, scheduled to be finished by the summer of 2012, will include a multi-use field complex, a three-acre dog park, a playground, a pavilion and multi-purpose trails. The second stage, a baseball/softball complex with seven lighted fields, will be completed in 2013.

The $409,800 contract, funded by the 2005 SPLOST, was awarded to Lose and Associates, Inc.

Harbins Park opened in 2009. The facility includes a 4.5-mile hiking trail, a 4.3-mile paved multi-purpose trail and a 7-mile equestrian and mountain biking trail. The park also features a tri-level playground and an equestrian-only parking area.
