Dacula Home Damaged During Storm

Few weather related incidents reported in the area.

The storm that devastated parts of the southeast yesterday caused very little damage in the Dacula area.

"We are very fortunate that the storms broke apart and lessened in intensity as they moved into our area," said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge in an emailed statement.

Rutledge said Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services responded to few weather related incidents as the storm moved through between midnight and 2 a.m.

In Dacula, fire crews were dispatched to the 1800 block of Fort River Way shortly before 1 a.m. after a tree fell on a house. Rutledge said no one was inside the home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

Though the area experienced a brief period of heavy rain, wind and lightning, the storms were not as severe as those that moved through other parts of the state.

"Our thoughts and prayers are now with those who were less fortunate in Northwest Georgia and Alabama.  The amount of damage and number of injuries and deaths being reported in Alabama and Georgia is heartbreaking,” Rutledge said. “It could have been any of us.  We were just part of the lucky ones tonight."
