Dacula Mayor Invites Students to Help Write a Short Story

is inviting area middle school students to take part in a “Short Story Adventure.”

Wilbanks has posted the first two paragraphs of a short story on the city’s website. The mayor is asking students to email the next paragraph for addition to the story.

“Each story would be no more than twelve paragraphs long. Each selected paragraph would be credited to the child, and all the authors would be cited,” the mayor wrote. “Might be an interesting way of getting some creative juices flowing before going back to school.”

The Bubbling Creek

Anna was bored. Life in Dacula in 1930 was so dull. The crops were all in, but Anna both dreaded and looked forward to going back to school in a couple of weeks. (mayor)

The homestead where Anna lived was forty acres. Her family grew mainly cotton, but they also grew almost everything they needed in a large garden. And that was Anna’s domain. She hoed, weeded, harvested, and helped can the vegetables her family produced. The vegetable patch was about ready to be plowed under for the year. Dull, Dull, Dull! (mayor)

To add to this story, students are encouraged to email a paragraph to Mayor Wilbanks at mayordacula@att.net. Students must be between the ages of 10-14 and have their parents’ permission to participate.
