Dacula Referendum, DRI Review and Sweet Potato Soufflé

A closer look at a few of this week's Dacula Patch stories.

Dacula Election Results 2012: Package Store Referendum Passes

After the overwhelming margin by which Dacula voters passed Sunday package sales and Sunday liquor by the drink sales, the results of the Nov. 6 package store referendum did not come as a surprise. It will be a while before a store actually opens in town, but it seems as if area residents are eagerly awaiting the grand opening. Hopefully the revenue projections will be accurate and the city will reap a substantial benefit from the new business.

Speaking of new business, if you missed this week’s three questions with Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks, you may have missed an important tidbit of information. The proposed Peak at University Parkway recently got the green light from the Atlanta Regional Commission. What does that mean? Any development that is large enough to be considered a development of regional impact -- or DRI -- must be reviewed by the ARC to determine essentially whether or not the development is in the best interests of the region and the state. The ARC determined this development is in the best interests of the region. Now we wait for the review by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.

Patient Reportedly Threatens to Blow up Medical Clinic

This is another one of those stories that serves as a reminder that there are unbalanced people all around us. You never know if you might run into one at the grocery store, a restaurant or, in this case, a doctor’s office. It is important to remember this when you are tempted to say or do something in anger. You just cannot know what kind of hornets nest you might be agitating.
