Dacula Weather: Rainy Week, Cooler Temperatures Ahead

If you are heading out this week, better grab an umbrella.

The Dacula weather forecast calls for a chance of rain each day through Friday with temperatures falling throughout the week. High temperatures will drop to the low 50s by Friday with lows dipping into the mid-30s. Patchy fog will be possible at times.

The Dacula area could receive several inches of rain. A stalled front has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch for much of North Georgia, including Gwinnett County, through Wednesday morning.

According to the NWS, widespread showers with periods of heavy rain will occur over the watch area allowing for potential storm totals of 3 to 4 inches with as much as 5 inches in some areas. From the NWS:

"Soils are wet in North Georgia due to recent rainfall. This will help in producing runoff as the rainfall amounts begin to accumulate through late Tuesday night. Minor flooding of smaller creeks, streams and low-lying flood prone areas will be possible."

In the Dacula area, the rain should taper off Friday evening with the weekend forceast calling for sunny conditions and highs in the low 50s.

Much colder temperatures could soon be on the way though. According to local weather expert Steve Brueck, "The arctic air that's been bottled up in Alaska and Canada is about to take a trip south and make some dramatic changes to our weather here." 

Those changes could include temperatures well below normal for the last week or so of January and the entire month of February. Above normal winter precipitation is also possible.

"I still say our first real shot of cold air is 6-10 days away, sometime in the 20-24th time frame. We will have a cold front come through late this week but it's not the arctic air we're looking for... yet," Brueck added.
