Dacula High School senior’s music career is off to a strong start.

Accomplishment: Eighteen-year-old David Leon began his music career just three short years ago. Since then, he has gained state and national recognition as an award winning country and gospel music artist. Leon has won awards for teen vocalist, songwriter and entertainer of the year and was voted one of the top 10 Atlanta country artists in the 2010 Country Atlanta Poll.

Leon has performed in a several well known venues including Nashville’s Wild Horse Saloon, the Georgia State Fair, the Lowell Opry and the Atlanta Hard Rock Café. Locally, Leon has entertained patrons at The Flying Machine, and .

This summer, Leon is scheduled to perform at the Opryland Hotel during the CMAFest and will also perform at the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. 

Leon has been involved with several charities including Relay for Life. He also donates 10 percent of his tips to a military charity. 

Leon’s mother Linda is his manager and his brother Caleb works as the sound engineer. 

Key to Success: Leon says what he enjoys most about performing is letting people have a good time.

“I like to make people smile and, with my music, I can do that,” he said.

Leon’s goals include landing a record deal with a country music label, but he also hopes to eventually work as a youth pastor -- a career he says will mesh well with his love of gospel music.
