Deadly Accidents, Computer Porn and Development Plans

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Sad details emerged this week in the case of a man killed Nov. 25 on I-85 near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. The 26-year-old victim was apparently on his way to Texas for Thanksgiving when he ran out of gas on Nov. 23. Police are still investigating the circumstances that led Calvin Wilson Jr. to be walking alongside the interstate two days later.

In another tragic story, a 16-year-old Mill Creek student was killed in a car crash over the Thanksgiving holiday. Zachary Holman was laid to rest Friday. Holman’s 11-year-old sister survived the crash. The driver of the vehicle in which Holman was a passenger is facing charges of second-degree vehicular homicide.

This story almost immediately landed in the most read articles list. I can only imagine some of the conversations this must have sparked. Hopefully everyone has some sympathy for both parties. It sounds as if they had a really bad day.

Will Dacula become home to a massive “live, work, play” development? Maybe. An investment group approached city leaders this past week regarding the possibility of building a mixed-used development on 157 acres near Highway 316. The property is currently in the county, but the investment group has expressed interest in having the property annexed into the city under certain conditions. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
