Defending the Indefensible, Scam Warning and Phony C-Note

A look at a few of the most notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.

If you missed this touching story about an 8-year-old athlete who put his athletic ambitions on hold in order to donate bone barrow to his ailing sister, please take a moment to read it. C.J. Clinkscales is without doubt a little hero and was selected as the Huffington Post’s Greatest Person of the Day for June 6.

After years of debating the future of the Gwinnett County Airport, commissioners voted this week to reject a proposal to privatize Briscoe Field. The commissioners also voted to withdraw the county’s application to the FAA privatization program which will hopefully put this controversy to rest once and for all.

In a blog post this week, Dave Emanuel asked whether or not crime really does pay. In the case of Shirley Lasseter and her legal defense fund, the answer may be yes. Read the blog to find out why Dave believes Lasseter is not entitled to any special treatment.

The Internet is chocked full of work from home scams and this week the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about one particular scam featuring a fictitious Lawrenceville woman. Please exercise caution when responding to any online ads and do your research before providing personal information or making any payments.

Speaking of money, please take time to carefully examine any bills you receive. A Sugar Hill man said a local bank gave him a counterfeit $100 bill. You would hope a bank would detect any fake bills before giving them to a customer, but I suppose it is to be expected that occasionally a counterfeit bill may slip through the system. The article contains a link with more information regarding how to spot a phony bill. If nothing else, you can avoid uncomfortable police encounters if you carefully inspect your cash.
