Do Tattoos Make You a Bad Person?

Uproar over inked Barbie has some questioning what exactly is so wrong about tattoos.

Mattel recently introduced a Barbie with platinum pink hair, sky-high silver stilettos, and tattoos running down her neck, chest, and arm. Patch columnist Leigh Hewett wrote:

The on-trend doll, a limited edition that retails for $50, has many parents worried that the ink-covered Barbie will be a bad influence on little girls. The Blogosphere has been buzzing with media coverage of outraged parents from the Huffington Post to Parents.com. Television coverage of parents' concerns about the doll include the "Today" show, "Good Morning America" and even CNN.

Hewett’s column, , has drawn numerous comments (on Patch sites and Facebook pages) and raises the question of why some people object to tattoos.

“… the d_ _n plastic doll is only a representation of 50+ years of declining ethics & morals. To the moms that are laughing & ready to dismiss the whole matter as harmless I ask ‘Will you allow your daughter to have a poll stripper Barbie?’ THEN WHAT?!?! Porn star Barbie!?!?!? See the pattern here? Where does all this end up?!?!?!?! …” – Gary F.

“Tattoo Barbie now not only boasts a humanly impossible body shape for little gals to aspire to, but nasty Tattoos that some little gal might equate with a standard of beauty.” – Linda L.

Others have a more tolerant view of inked body art:

“I am more concerned that my children treat other people, no matter what their fashion choices or style, with respect and kindness than I am about this Barbie causing my children to turn down the wrong path.” – Caroline U.

“I would have no problem with my daughter playing with this Barbie. Its not like it comes with a heroin needle or anything. Tattoos don't make someone a bad person and to teach young kids this is wrong.” – Jason B.

“Absolutely. My children are exposed to tattooed people daily. Tattoos don't make a person bad.” – Melissa S.
