Drug Deal Gone Bad, the Dangers of Meth and Falling Home Prices

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

The week started off a good note with news that a commemorative bell stolen from Duncan Creek Congregational Church had been returned. It is wonderful to know the bell is back where it belongs and that a Jackson County man was honest enough to notify authorities when he realized he’d purchased a hot bell.

Two men were killed and two injured last week as a result of a failed drug deal. It is a sad commentary on our society that these type incidents continue to happen. We are caught in a vicious cycle of drug users fueling a drug trade run by people who in turn continue to seek out new users. Two 23-year-old men are dead because they allowed themselves to be caught in this dangerous cycle. Perhaps their deaths might serve as a warning to other young people tempted to participate in the drug trade. Regardless, we now have two young lives that have been snuffed out and two others that have been irrevocably changed by drugs.

Speaking of drugs, methamphetamine has to be one of the most dangerous drugs on the streets right now. In addition to being highly addictive, prolonged use can lead to anxiety, delusions, paranoia and more. It also takes a pronounced physical toll on users and can lead to very bad decision-making. I hope the woman in this story gets the help she needs.

In what was good news to everyone but Steve Brueck, Gen. Beauregard Lee predicted an early spring this past Thursday. Given how mild temperatures have been so far, an early spring certainly seems like a possibility. My daffodils and hyacinths already think spring has arrived.

When will the housing woes end? I don’t know, but it seems as if it may be a while. Dacula realtor Matt Hermes shared some disappointing news about metro Atlanta home prices this past week in his blog.
