GCPS Releases First Enrollment Count

Mill Creek tops list with 3,528 students.

Once again, leads the county in terms of student enrollment.

Gwinnett County Public Schools conducted the first enrollment count of the new school year on Tuesday, Aug. 9. Mill Creek had the most students of any school in the county with 3,528, or 47 more than forecast. The high school with the second largest enrollment was Brookwood with 3,356. By comparison, had 1,775 students or 164 less than projected. Archer, which serves some parts of Dacula, had 1,870.

Of the GCPS middle schools, Hull Middle in Duluth had the largest enrollment with 2,256 students. The first count showed with 1,518 students and with 1,641.

Hopkins Elementary in Lilburn begins the year with the most students of any elementary school with 1,750. In the Dacula area, had 1,262 students during the first count followed by with 1,165, with 1,041, with 980, with 846, with 624 and with 578.

Systemwide, the first count put enrollment at 159,959 students. The school system expects 162,459 by the post-Labor Day count. In 2010, the school system added 5,068 students between the first and final enrollment checks.

“Based on these preliminary numbers, district planners expect the school system's post Labor Day enrollment to be very close to the forecast,” said Director of Media Relations Jorge Quintana in a released statement. “School system planners will continue to monitor growth and do anticipate increases in student enrollment over the next few weeks.”

Additional enrollment counts will be held on Aug. 15, Aug. 22, Aug. 29, and Sept. 6.
