Holiday travel will be made easier this weekend by the suspension of all construction-related lane closures on Georgia interstates and major highways.
“We hope this suspension of major construction work will allow motorists to get to and from their holiday destinations with less congestion and less aggravation,” stated Bayne Smith, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) District Engineer, in a press release.
All construction-related lane closures will be suspended beginning at 5 a.m. on Friday, May 25 and continuing until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29.
According to the GDOT press release, some work may continue on lesser-traveled routes and emergency maintenance-related lane closures could occur on any route. Motorists are advised to call 511 or visit 511ga.org for real time lane closure information.
