Georgia Department of Labor Offering Resume Help

RésuMAY part of month-long effort to help job seekers.

During May, the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) hopes to help job seekers improve their chances of employment by focusing on résumé-writing tools and employment-related services available at GDOL offices.

“Résumé-writing assistance is one of the most popular and valuable services that Georgia’s workforce system offers,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler in a released statement. “Studies have shown that an employer makes a decision about a job seeker within the first 30 seconds of looking at a résumé. That’s why a well-written résumé is critical, otherwise the applicant may not get an opportunity to interview for a job. Through RésuMAY, we’ll be able to better equip job seekers to market their skills to employers.”

As part of RésuMAY, job seekers may participate in Type Explore Discover (Ask TED), a live on-line chat devoted to résumés scheduled for May 25. GDOL will also offer résumé-writing podcasts and other online resources.

GDOL career centers, vocational rehabilitation offices and workforce investment boards will offer résumé workshops, employer-led feedback discussions, résumé contests and one-on-one intensive résumé sessions. These services will also be offered at career expos, schools, military installations, churches, and libraries.

According to GDOL, RésuMAY is targeted to general job seekers, older workers, professionals and long-term unemployed.
