A look at top Patch stories from around Georgia.

– Loganville-Grayson Patch

A five-year-old from Grayson was one of two young girls who drowned on Sunday in an in-ground pool at a home in Dallas. The victims were identified as Sophia Juarez, a resident of the home, and Mia Penoyer of Grayson.

Penoyer’s grandmother, 58, was home Sunday with the girls and made a phone call lasting approximately 45 minutes. According to Sgt. Bill Gorman of the Dallas Police Department, it was during this time that the girls left the house and ventured to the swimming pool. They were not swimming at the time of drowning as both girls were found fully clothed.

Juarez’s parents and 10-year-old son returned home from shopping and found the girls in the pool. The family called 911 and attempted to take the girls to the hospital in a personal vehicle. First-responders arrived three to four minutes later and met the family at the entrance to the subdivision. They were unable to revive the girls. The grandmother is set to be charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor. She was admitted to WellStar Paulding Hospital for evaluation.
