Health Inspection Scores, Transit Subsidies and Underwater Mortgage Blues

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

I have been running a weekly article with restaurant inspection scores for quite some time. Based on the number of article views each week, I am not the only one who wants to know whether or not local restaurants score highly during health inspections.

Due to the fact that two popular restaurants failed recent inspections, last week’s article drew an unusual amount of attention. For those of you who do not regularly read the health inspections article, each week I post any new scores and any reinspections. Any other scores are the most recent ones available. I also always post the links to the reports so that people can look at the violations and judge the severity of the violations for themselves. Be sure to check the website Wednesday mornings for the most recent scores.

Am I the only one who is appalled that our public transit system's goal is that fares should only cover a third of costs? If ridership and/or fares are so low that the system needs taxpayers to fund two-thirds of operating costs, then it seems to me something is wrong.

Wondering what the Dacula real estate market was like in 2011? Did you know 41 percent of homes sold were either foreclosures or short sales? Looks as if it may be a while before home values recover in our area.

Speaking of foreclosures, Dacula Patch blogger Brian Crawford weighed in on why he thinks a strategic foreclosure is acceptable. As you may recall, Dacula Patch blogger Cynthia Montgomery in which she asked whether or not the practice is morally acceptable. What do you think?

I lived in Dacula for many, many years before I attended the Memorial Day parade. If you haven’t been, you should definitely go. If you are interested in participating in the parade, now is the time to submit your application.

Be sure to check in during the week for the latest news and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the day. Have a great week and thanks for reading Dacula Patch.
