Home Buying Seminar and Tour Set for Aug. 27

Dacula houses part of three-county tour of affordable homes.

In the market for a new home? Wondering what you should know about the current market? A seminar and tour of homes scheduled for this Saturday may provide answers.

The NID Housing Counseling Agency is sponsoring a free foreclosure buying seminar and three-county home tour on Aug. 27.  Two Dacula homes -- located at 1470 Brisbane Drive and 2448 Radcliffe Court -- are part of the tour. Qualified buyers may be eligible to receive up to $22,500 in down payment assistance towards the purchase of the homes.

Seminar attendees will learn how to buy foreclosures, short sales, resales and new construction homes in today’s market. The seminars will also include tips from home inspectors and information on down payment assistance programs.

After the seminar, participants will receive a boxed lunch and proceed to the self-guided home tours.

“Many prospective homebuyers are still on the fence and we want to give them tips and firsthand exposure to some great houses on the market in Atlanta,” said Lawrence Batiste, Southeast manager for NID and current chair of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, in a released statement.

The seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in building 100, room 210 at Gwinnett Technical College, 5150 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville. Pre-registration for the seminars and tours is strongly encouraged but not required. Those interested may call Cassie Stanley at 770-472-3756 or e-mail cstanleynid@gmail.com.

Participating partners in Saturday’s home tour and seminar include the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, the Piece by Piece foreclosure initiative and Wells Fargo.

“The current market is daunting and many people are asking, ‘Should I buy now?  How do I recognize a good deal?’” said John O’Callaghan, president and CEO of ANDP and a coordinator of the Piece by Piece initiative.  “This is a great way to educate homebuyers about the current market and get them into some great neighborhoods that are coming back.”
