Honoring Our Troops: Erica Leon

Dacula High School graduate Erica Leon is currently serving in Iraq.

Erica Leon is a 2006 graduate of .  During her senior year at Dacula, she was an assistant in the severe and profoundly disabled student class, creator and director of a Relay for Life fundraiser and a youth worship team leader for her church.   She has served as a team leader for two domestic youth mission trips in which they aided low-income elderly residents with home repairs. 

Erica has been honored to be crowned in many pageant systems, including being crowned Dacula’s first ever Miss Dacula Sweetheart, and in such has given her time to support such organizations as the Special Olympics and Gwinnett Children’s Shelter.   

Erica has also been honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation for serving over 250 hours in the community.

Since joining the United States Air Force, Erica has also become involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization, where she is paired with an incredible youth who she has the joy and honor to mentor.

Erica is currently deployed to Balad Air Base in Iraq and is slated to be back on United States soil in early May 2011.

Erica is the daughter of Phil and Linda Leon of Dacula. She has two brothers who currently attend Dacula High School, David (senior) and Caleb (freshman). Her grandparents are Paul and Joyce Nielsen of Cartersville, Ga. and Georgina Leon of Chula Vista, Calif.
