I-85 Sign Installation Work Continues

No daytime lane closures planned next week.

As part of the conversion of the existing , the Georgia Department of Transportation will continue work to install more than 60 signs along the I-85 corridor next week.

The work is taking place overnight. Traffic pacing may occur between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

This week, as weather permits, one or two segments of the HOV or inside lanes along the median wall in both directions will be closed. Northbound lane closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and southbound closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Up to three lanes could be closed after midnight. Traffic will be paced one to three times as needed. Overnight lane closures may occur at the following locations:

  • Sunday, May 22 - Along the median wall from Shallowford Road to I-285.
  • Monday, May 23 – Along the median wall from Northcrest Road to Shallowford Road and a second work zone from Duluth Highway to Old Peachtree Road.
  • Tuesday, May 24 - Along the median wall from Northcrest Road to Jimmy Carter Boulevard and a second work zone from Boggs Road to Sugarloaf Parkway.
  • Wednesday, May 25 - Along the median wall from Pleasantdale Road to Jimmy Carter Boulevard and a second work zone from Pleasant Hill Road to Boggs Road. A third work zone will be in place from Sugarloaf Parkway to north of Old Peachtree Road.
  • Thursday, May 26 - Along the median wall near Jimmy Carter Boulevard and a second work zone from Pleasant Hill Road to Boggs Road.

There are no planned daytime closures. Lane closures will also be suspended for the Memorial Day holiday weekend and will resume at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 30.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
