I-85 Signage Work Continues

Traffic pacing, lane closures possible.

As part of the conversion of the existing , the Georgia Department of Transportation will continue work to install more than 60 signs along the I-85 corridor next week.

Daytime and nighttime work is planned. Traffic pacing may occur between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.

This week, as weather permits, one or two segments of the HOV or inside lanes along the median wall in both directions will be closed during the overnight hours. Northbound lane closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and southbound closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Up to three lanes could be closed after midnight.

Traffic will be paced one to three times as needed. Overnight lane closures may occur at the following locations:

  • Monday, June 21 -Along the median wall for the installation of new signage along I-85 north from Indian Trail Road to SR 378/Beaver Ruin Road. A second work zone on I-85 south only will close the HOV lane of I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree Road.
  • Tuesday, June 22 - Along the median wall of I-85 north only for the installation of new signage the Dawson Boulevard overpass for one mile northward, milepost 98 south of SR 140/Jimmy Carter Boulevard. A second work zone on I-85 south only will close the HOV lane of I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree Road.
  • Wednesday, June 23 - Along the median wall for the installation of new signage on I-85 north only from Northcrest Road to the Dawson Boulevard overpass. A second work zone on I-85 south only will close the HOV lane of I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree Road.
  • Thursday, June 24 - Work is planned for the installation of new signage on I-85 north and south from Pleasant Hill Road to Boggs Road. A second work zone on I-85 south only will close the HOV lane of I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree Road.

Daytime work is expected to take place in the following locations in the northbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the southbound lanes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Monday, June 21 - Work will occur on I-85 south only closing the left lane or HOV lane from SR 140/Jimmy Carter Boulevard to New Center Way overpass.
  • Tuesday, June 22 - Work will occur on I-85 south only closing the left lane or HOV lane from Indian Trail Road to SR 378/Beaver Ruin Road.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
