I-85 Travelers Should Expect Overnight Lane Closures

Traveling north or south on I-85 for the next few days? Be aware of lane closures to avoid delays.

According to a press release by the Georgia Department of Transportation, motorists should expect lane closures on I-85 at State Route 324/Gravel Springs Road in Buford during the evening hours of Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and again early next week.

The lane closures will be a result of the widening of the SR 324 Bridge that crosses over I-85. Crews are scheduled to work tonight, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. and will close one lane of I-85 southbound. On Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6 crews are scheduled to work from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. and will be closing one lane of I-85 northbound during these hours.

The GDOT report states that the project is currently 78 percent complete and on track to be finished by May 31, 2012. The estimated cost of this construction is $11.2 million. The funding from this project is by the ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).
