Kitten Hit for 'Antagonizing' Pit Bull Recovering at Animal Shelter

Michael Glover of Buford is facing a charge of animal cruelty in connection with the incident.

A kitten that was struck for "antagonizing" a Buford man's pit bull continues to recover at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter.

The female kitten, according Ofc. Joey Brooks of Gwinnett County Animal Control, is not yet available for adoption but appears to be on the mend.

"She is doing better. She is getting around okay," Brooks said, but added they are still monitoring her condition. Brooks expects to place the kitten up for adoption within the next couple of weeks and thinks she will quickly find a new home.

"We've been getting 20 to 30 calls a day about her," Brooks said.

Michael Paul Labron Glover, 40, of Buford, was taken into custody on April 2 on a charge of animal cruelty after reportedly striking the 10-week-old kitten with a tree limb.

Glover claimed the cat had been tearing up his mother's garden and said he was "sick of it." He also claimed to have personally witnessed the cat teasing his pit bull. When asked by an officer what he did to resolve the issue, Glover reportedly replied, "I saw that little cat outside of my fence acting like he was going to antagonize my pit bull, so I grabbed a little stick and hit him with it."

The little stick, Glover later admitted, was a three-and-a-half foot long tree limb approximately an inch-and-a-half in diameter (see photo).

Glover remains jailed without bond on charges of animal cruelty and probation violation.
