Lane Closures Planned Next Week

More roadwork scheduled as I-85 HOV lanes are converted to HOT lanes.

Dacula commuters traveling to downtown may encounter delays next week as Georgia Department of Transportation construction crews work to convert the existing .

This week, as weather permits, crews will be working on the access roads and ramp system adjacent to I-85 inside the perimeter. Northbound lane closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and southbound closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The work schedule for next week is as follows:

  • Monday, April 18 - Work will occur on the southbound access road from I-285 to Shallowford Road closing the left lane.
  • Tuesday, April 19 - Work will occur on the southbound access road from I-285 to one mile south of Shallowford Road closing the left lane and a second work zone will occur on the ramp from Interstate 85 south to I-285 west closing the left lane. The northbound HOV lane will also be closed from Northcrest Road to north of Pleasantdale Road.
  • Wednesday, April 20 - Work will occur on the southbound access road from I-285 to one mile south of Shallowford Road closing the left lane and a second work zone will occur on the ramp from Interstate 85 south to I-285 west closing the left lane. The northbound HOV lane will also be closed from Pleasant Hill Road to Boggs Road.
  • Thursday, April 21 - Work will occur on the southbound access road from Shallowford Road south for one mile and a second work zone will occur on the ramp from Interstate 85 south to I-285 west closing the left lane.
  • Friday, April 22 - Work will occur on the ramp from Interstate 85 south to I-285 west closing the left lane.

Weeknight work involving both directions of the High Occupancy Vehicle lane or inside lane is also planned between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the northbound lanes and 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the southbound lanes in the following locations:

  • Monday, April 18 โ€“ The median wall from Chamblee Tucker Road to I-285 and a second work zone from Pleasant Hill Road to Boggs Road.
  • Tuesday, April 19 - The median wall from Steve Reynolds Blvd. to Pleasant Hill Road and a second work zone from Boggs Road to Old Peachtree Road.
  • Wednesday, April 20 - The median wall from SR 378/Beaver Ruin Road to Steve Reynolds Blvd. and a second work zone from Pleasant Hill Road to south of Old Peachtree Road.
  • Thursday, April 21 - The median wall from Steve Reynolds Blvd. to north of Pleasant Hill Road and a second work zone from Old Peachtree Road to SR 120.
  • Friday, April 22 - The median wall from Indian Trail Road to Steve Reynolds Blvd.

Weekend work for April 22-25 includes closures of both north and southbound lanes. Two left lanes of I-85 north and one left lane of I-85 south will close from Shallowford Road to Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County from Friday, April 22 at 9 p.m. to Monday, April 25 at 5 a.m.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
