Lane Closures Planned on I-85

More roadwork scheduled as I-85 HOV lanes are converted to HOT lanes.

Dacula commuters traveling to downtown may encounter delays this week as Georgia Department of Transportation construction crews work to convert the existing .

This week, as weather permits, crews will be working primarily along the median walls. Northbound lane closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and southbound closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The work schedule for this week is as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 26 - Work will occur on I-85 north closing the left lane or HOV lane from Northcrest Road to Pleasantdale Road.
  • Wednesday, April 27 - Work will occur on the southbound ramp from I -85 south to I-285 closing the left lane.

Weeknight work involving both directions of the High Occupancy Vehicle lane or inside lane is also planned between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the northbound lanes and 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the southbound lanes in the following locations:

  • Tuesday, April 26 - The median wall from State Route 316 to Sugarloaf Parkway and a second work zone from Indian Trail Road to Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
  • Wednesday, April 27 - The median wall from State Route 316 to Sugarloaf Parkway and a second work zone from Indian Trail Road to Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
  • Thursday, April 28 - The median wall from State Route 316 to Sugarloaf Parkway and a second work zone from Indian Trail Road to SR 140/Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
  • Friday, April 29 – The median wall from Indian Trail Road to SR 140/Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Weekend work for April 29-May 2 includes closures of both north and southbound lanes. Two left lanes of I-85 north and one left lane of I-85 south will close from Shallowford Road to Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County from Friday, April 29 at 9 p.m. to Monday, May 2 at 5 a.m.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
