Major Development, Alert Neighbor and a New Gun Club

A look at a few of the most notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.

With little fanfare and only a modicum of public interest, the City of Dacula completed a major feat Thursday night by annexing and subsequently rezoning a 157-acre tract of land near Highway 316. If developed in a manner anywhere close to the concept plan that has been presented, this annexation could result in a substantial benefit to the city in terms of jobs, revenue and transportation improvements. Even those of us who do not live within the city limits will see the impact of this development. It will be very interesting to see what happens over the next few years with this property.

Kudos to this alert individual who had the presence of mind to follow the thieves, call the police and not do anything rash before the authorities arrived. The stolen package was recovered, the neighbor gave police good information that will hopefully lead to an arrest and no one was hurt.

As a dog owner, I get so irritated when I take my dog out -- on a leash mind you -- for a walk and get charged by someone else’s dog. I’ve had it happen multiple times in my neighborhood. The last time, I ended up with cuts and bruises after being taken to the ground by my own dog as he was trying to put himself between me and the dog that charged us. If you have pet, please keep it on a leash or fenced. Dogs seldom seem friendly when they are running at you full speed.

Gun Club With 28-Lane Indoor Shooting Range Expected to Open in July

I had the opportunity to speak with Verne Fowler last week regarding the gun club he plans to open in our area this July. It sounds as if it will be a very nice facility. Mr. Fowler is already hiring instructors and will be hiring retail staff soon as well. Keep an eye on the Dacula Patch jobs page for details in the coming weeks.

Thanks to all the Dacula Patch readers who have taken the time to rate and review local businesses. I read all of them because I don’t want to spend my hard-earned money somewhere and get poor service or a poor product in return. It’s always nice to know if a place comes highly recommended.
