Mill Creek Students Injured in Bus Accident

Charter bus involved in collision on I-75.

UPDATED: Twenty students were injured this afternoon in a bus accident on I-75 northbound near mile marker 116 in Dooly County, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) received the initial accident call at 3:11 p.m., according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright.

Wright said the tour bus was carrying 52 people at the time of the accident. According to Wright, a rear end collision occurred in the left lane of travel ahead of the bus. One of the vehicles from that accident was pushed into the path of the tour bus. The tour bus operator swerved to avoid the vehicle, ran off the roadway and up an embankment striking an overpass.

Wright said one person was airlifted to Macon Medical for treatment and is listed in stable condition. Nineteen other students were taken to area hospitals to be checked. The remaining students were transported to the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office to await alternative transportation.
