More Lane Closures on I-85

Work continues on HOV to HOT lane conversion project.

More lane closures are planned as Georgia Department of Transportation construction crews work to convert the existing

This week, as weather permits, one or two segments of the HOV lanes along the median wall in both directions will be closed. Northbound lane closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and southbound closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The planned daytime lane closures include:

  • Monday, April 11 - Sugarloaf Parkway to north of Old Peachtree Road.
  • Tuesday, April 12 - South of Shallowford Road to Chamblee Tucker Road and a second work zone from Boggs Road to Sugarloaf Parkway.
  • Wednesday, April 13 - Steve Reynolds Boulevard to north of Pleasant Hill Road.
  • Thursday, April 14 - Indian Trail Road to Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
  • Friday, April 15 - Jimmy Carter Boulevard to Indian Trail Road

Weeknight work is also planned between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the northbound lanes and 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the southbound lanes in the following locations:

  • Monday, April 11 – Highway 317/Lawrenceville Suwanee Road to Old Peachtree.
  • Tuesday, April 12 - Highway 317/Lawrenceville Suwanee Road to Old Peachtree.
  • Wednesday, April 13 - Highway 317/Lawrenceville Suwanee Road to mile marker 112.

Weekend work for April 15-18 includes closures of both north and southbound lanes. The two left lanes of I-85 north and one left lane of I-85 south will be closed from Shallowford Road to I-285 in DeKalb County from Friday, April 15 at 9 p.m. to Monday, April 18 at 5 a.m.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
