Nation Marks 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

Seventy years ago today, the Japanese Navy attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor killing over 2,400 Americans.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

More than 2,400 Americans were killed in the attack including 1,177 aboard the battleship Arizona. Referred to as a "day that would live in infamy" by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dec. 7, 1941 marked the beginning of America's fight in World War II.

Before the war ended in 1945, 292,000 U.S. service personnel were killed in battle and 671,000 wounded. According to the United States Census Bureau, a total of 16 million American men and women served during World War II with nearly 2 million still alive today.
