No Interstate Construction Work Planned for Holiday Weekend

Work will continue this week to install new signs.

As part of the conversion of the existing , the Georgia Department of Transportation will continue work to install more than 60 signs along the I-85 corridor next week.

Daytime and nighttime work is planned. Traffic pacing may occur between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.

This week, as weather permits, one or two segments of the HOV or inside lanes along the median wall in both directions will be closed during the overnight hours. Northbound lane closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and southbound closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Up to three lanes could be closed after midnight.

Traffic will be paced one to three times as needed. Overnight lane closures may occur at the following locations:

  • Monday, June 27 - On SR 316 west only, closing the right lane from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for the installation of new signs. A second work zone on I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree will close the left or HOV lane.
  • Tuesday, June 28 – Work is planned along SR 316 west only, closing the right lane only for the installation of new signage from Sugarloaf Parkway to I-85. A second work zone on I-85 south only from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree will close the left or HOV lane.
  • Wednesday, June 29 - Work is planned along the median wall for the installation of new signage on I-85 north only from Pleasant Hill Road to the Boggs Road overpass. A second work zone on I 85 south only will close the HOV lane of I-85 south only from SR 120/Duluth Highway to Old Peachtree Road.

Daytime work is expected to take place in the following locations in the northbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the southbound lanes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, June 28 - Work will occur on I-85 south only closing the left lane or HOV lane from Old Norcross Road overpass to the Boggs Road Overpass.
  • Wednesday, June 29 - Work will occur on I-85 north and south closing the left lane or HOV lane from Sugarloaf Parkway to Old Peachtree Road.

The I-85 Express Lanes Project includes installation of 16 miles of fiber and signage along Interstate Highway 85 between Chamblee Tucker Road and Old Peachtree Road and along State Route 316 between I-85 and Riverside Parkway.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single and double occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
