'Pretty' Money Scam, Horrific Sexual Assault and Anti-Zoning Petition

A look at a few of the most notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.

This was our most popular story of the week by far. It really is hard to understand just how these women managed to get $841 out of the register right under the clerk’s nose. I suppose the important thing to keep in mind is that there are all kinds of criminals out there and some of them are pretty tricky.

The victim’s account of this assault is horrific. If there is a bright side to this incident, it is the fact the teen immediately reported the assault to her father who in turn immediately called police. From time to time you hear stories of sexual assault victims who were too afraid or too embarrassed to report the crime. In this case, a suspect has been identified and the matter is now in the hands of police investigators.

On July 3, the Gwinnett County Planning Commission will hear two requests related to a parcel of property on Jim Moore Road. The applicant wants to build a 50-unit personal care facility on the site of what is now a single-family home and has requested the property be rezoned to office-institutional in order to do this. A Hamilton Mill resident has launched a petition opposing the proposed rezoning and over 200 people have already signed.

The race for the District 3 Gwinnett County commission seat will be decided on July 31. Dacula Patch sent questionnaires to the four candidates and has posted the answers unedited and in their entirety. Please take the time to review the responses so that you can make an informed decision when you head to the polls.

For more insight into the character and political beliefs of the Gwinnett County District 3 commission candidates, please listen to the audio from the June 14 debate. If you click on the link above, you’ll see a list of available audio clips. Most of the clips are under two minutes in length and each is labeled with the question being answered. Some of the responses were very interesting and well worth reviewing.
