Road Rage, Uninvited Advice and Memorial Day

A look at a few of the notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.

We all know how bad traffic is in the metro area and I doubt there are any local drivers who have not experienced a moment of anger caused by the driving behaviors of others. Who hasn’t dreamed of having laser cannons mounted on the front of his or her vehicle? I suppose it is for the best that such after-market equipment is not readily available. In all seriousness though, it is one thing to become angry or frustrated. It is quite another to act on that frustration. We all need to do our part to drive courteously, not engage enraged drivers and just try to think happy thoughts while we are dealing with traffic.

I don’t recall any advice dispensed at my high school graduation. I was so excited and so ready to go off to college, I’m not sure how I managed not to fly across the stage, snatch my diploma and run out the door. Hopefully some graduates will take a moment and check out the sound advice offered up this week by Dacula Patch columnist Ray Newman.

It was only a matter of time before the race for Gwinnett County District 3 began to get heated. The opening salvo was fired this week when the Mike Korom campaign released an 8-year-old letter of reprimand directed at candidate Tommy Hunter. This is a very important race for the residents in our area and I hope the best man will win.

Dacula Patch columnist and blogger Jimmy Orr called out the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners this week for their failure to bring the airport issue to a vote. In an open letter to our commissioners, Jimmy has asked for them to vote prior to the July 31 primary. “To do otherwise would, in my opinion, leave your political integrity in question,” Orr wrote. As Jimmy said, it’s time to fish or cut bait.

Dacula Patch blogger and Dacula Memorial Day parade founder Marvin Atherton shared details about tomorrow’s festivities in a blog post this week. If you have not attended the Memorial Day festivities before, check out Marvin’s post to see what is planned. I hope to see you downtown tomorrow. I’ll have my Patch shirt on, so stop by and say hello.
