Several 9/11 Memorial Events Scheduled This Weekend

City of Dacula's "Day of Remembrance" is one of the events marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

A service project and special remembrance ceremony is planned in Dacula on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Mill Creek student Charles Orgbon, founder of Greening Forward, has organized a litter pick-up and a remembrance service to honor those who died during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Volunteers will gather in the parking lot at 3 p.m. and will then pick up trash along Harbins Road from the school to .

At 4 p.m., the remembrance ceremony will begin. Guest speakers include and other local dignitaries. Mill Creek band members are also scheduled to perform.

As part of the ceremony, volunteers will plant a tree in front of Dacula City Hall as a living tribute to the victims of 9/11.

Hebron Baptist Church will recognize public safety providers Sunday in special services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

 

The Stone Mountain Chorus will perform a patriotic themed concert Sunday night at the First Baptist Church of Snellville. This is an open event and is free to attend. Come see the close Barbershop Harmony sounds from the Stone Mountain Chorus and several chapter quartets.

 

On Sunday, Sept. 11. bikers from Lawrenceville, participating in the 9/11 Memorial Tribute Ride, will leave the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center after a local memorial service beginning at 7:30 a.m. Lawrenceville bikers will meet groups leaving from four other locations at a single rally point at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and a memorial service will take place at the Rally Point at 1 p.m. Registration fee is $20 per biker and $10 per passenger. All proceeds will benefit the Georgia Public Safety Memorial Fund. Online registration is available.

 

As part of a National Cub Scout project, local Dacula Pack 503 will be holding a Scout Surge in remembrance of 9/11.  Scouts are holding a food drive to benefit the local food pantry, Lawrenceville Co-op.  The food drive will culminate with a flag ceremony and flag retirement taking place on 9/11 at 6 p.m. at Trinity Christian Fellowship, located at 1985 Old Fountain Road.  

 

This event sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America takes place on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville. This event will bring Scouts and non-Scouts together to pay respect for those involved in the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
