Skatepark Brawl, Flash Mob and Free Chicken

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

A hundred lucky people won a year’s worth of free meals as part of the grand opening celebration for the new . If you did not happen to drive by while the camp-out was taking place, check out the photos and video of the event. There truly were some happy campers in Dacula this week.

The health inspectors were very busy in Dacula last week. Even though our restaurants may not get inspected as often as we might prefer, it is good to know that we have people working to make sure we have a safe dining experience. A couple of restaurants scored Cs in the last round of inspections, so be sure to check out the article before you go out to eat.

I do not know if most people realize how much time is involved for an officer to file a report. The officer, wherever he or she is, is dispatched and then must drive to wherever the crime occurred. The officer must then interview the victim and any witnesses, gather contact information and other data, write up a detailed report describing what happened and submit the report electronically to his or her commanding officer. When you think about it, it is really easy to see how an online reporting system could result in huge time and money savings for the county and allow officers to spend more time on proactive policing. Not all criminal reports can be filed online, but many can. Hopefully you will never need to use it, but, if you do become the victim of crime, it really is a very nice option.

I suppose any time you have a large gathering of teens and adults, problems can occur. If you have a teen that frequents the skatepark, take a moment to talk with him or her regarding personal safety. Even young people can be crime victims and, unfortunately, crime perpetrators.

Last week, I was browsing YouTube and came across a cool video of a half time performance at a football game. I started searching and found some other neat videos posted by members of the Dacula community. There are so many interesting things that take place each and every day that we do not get to see, but, thanks to the miracle of the Internet, we sometimes get the chance at a later date. If you know of any interesting Dacula-related videos, please send the link to Kristi.Reed@patch.com.
